10 Mile Race Quandry
Whoa, it’s been a long time since I’ve logged onto my Tumblr!  I’ve blogged some at my other blog (http://gochelseago.com), but life has really gotten in the way lately. Quick update: Finished law school(!!) Took and passed the bar exam(!!!!) Pulled my hamstring before my planned half-marathon last October :( Signed up for a 10 mile race on Oct. 29th! Bad news...

Compression Gear: Thoughts?
Hey all! So I picked up my first pair of compression pants today.  I picked them up for their cold weather benefits (Minnesota winters are not kind to runners), but I’ve heard they are awesome for muscle recovery.  What are your thoughts?  Have you used any sort of compression gear and has it helped you in your sport?  P.S. If you’ve been wondering where I’ve been all this...

I am having one of those days where my hunger is insatiable!  Since I got home, oh about an hour and a half ago, I’ve eaten greek yogurt with a crushed up graham cracker, almonds, hot and spicy pickles, a handful of cereal, and lots of white cheddar rice/corn puffs (aka Pirate Booty knockoff brand). But you know what, I enjoyed it all.  I’ll just compensate for it on my after dinner...

C'mon all you photo buffs, I need some advice...
So I’ve been in the market for a new camera for…a long time.  I have an 5-6 year old Canon camera (I am not sure of the model offhand…yeah I am at work and should be doing work, but you know how it goes) and it just makes me NOT want to take pictures.  It’s slow and only 3.2 megapixels.  Yup, you read that right—many of today’s cell phones take better pictures...

Weight & Drivers Licenses
At work today, I’ve looked at dozens and dozens of traffic tickets.  And oddly enough, the one thing I always seem to glance at is that one number.  No, it’s not their age or height.  I always look at the driver’s weight. I always find it curious when people list their weight as like 156, 123, 217, or 189, for example.  I had just thought that most people rounded up to the...

I clearly fail at life today!
So today, while I was at the courthouse, I made a woman cry.  I felt really bad.  Although, she was only crying over a speeding ticket that I wouldn’t keep off her driving record.  So really, not sure I feel that bad.  On the other hand, my supervising attorney today made a woman cry and also had to deal with another woman kid’s “accident” while sitting in one of the...

The First Race After the Other First Race
Tomorrow is my first race after my half-marathon last month (which was also my first race ever)!  5K here I come!  Race recap in the morning!

The Quick Life Update!!
Running Update Ever since the half-marathon, my legs have just felt sore and weak.  The boyfriend and I tried to do a 6 miler about 1.5 weeks ago and we only were able to run 2 of the miles straight (of course the first two). After this run, I developed wicked shin splints.  Never mind that I already had shin splints in one of the shin splint muscles on each leg; the running gods apparently...

My Exercise Saabatical...ends today!
I haven’t worked out for 6 days.  Whew, glad that’s out there.  The first stage of recovery is admitting there’s a problem right?  So I admitted it; I haven’t worked out for 6 days. At first, it was a conscious decision.  My last workout was on Monday, and I worked my legs a bit too hard through some strength training.  Tuesday, I was sore, but Wednesday I was SORE!  I...

twism: Alias fans, get excited! If the words of an insider at ABC are to be believed, talks are going on at the network to reboot the show. The people in development have apparently made plans to come out with a newer vision of the show that would incorporate some elements of the original series, but also maintain it’s own level of uniqueness. ABC is supposedly concerned about losing the Lost...

2010 Maple Grove Half-Marathon Race Recap
On Saturday, I ran my first half-marathon.  (I never thought I’d be able to say or type those words!)  I had always thought this would be an elusive goal.  And now, I can cross it off my bucket list! I was stressed on the days leading up to the half.  I was scared that my legs wouldn’t be able to carry me that far, due to shin splints on the insides of both legs, a sore IT...

somemotivationrequired replied to your post: 2:21:05!! I am OFFICIALLY a half-marathon FINISHER! I finished my first half marathon this morning with 2:21:17! You weren’t running the St. Jude’s Heroes Half in Seattle by chance, were you? It’s uncanny how close our times were!  However, I was miles and miles away, running the race in Maple Grove, MN.  Congrats on your half-marathon!

2:21:05!! I am OFFICIALLY a half-marathon...
Thanks to all of your for the encouragement last night!  Surprisingly, I woke up this morning with no nerves.  I’ll post a more comprehensive recap once I get some of the pictures my mom and dad took (they were such awesome spectators). As for my time, I finished WAY ahead of what I thought my pace would be (due to the lack of consistent training the past couple weeks due to my...

THE Weighty Issue: What is MY happy weight?
If you look at the history of my tumblr, I rarely talk about the ‘numbers.’  I haven’t posted how much I weighed before I started my running journey in January, nor what I weight now.  This was a conscious decision on my part, because weight wasn’t the main purpose of this tumblr blog.  Sure, I wanted to lose a few pounds at the start, but I knew that once I changed my diet...

TGIF Run!
Today couldn’t be better!  I am done with finals, I got to sleep in, and I got a decent run in.  The boyfriend also got done with his grad school finals yesterday, so we will be celebrating and relaxing a ton this weekend!  So, I thought I’d get a run out of the way today (and I’ll hopefully get one in on Sunday). Final Statistics: Total Distance: 6.86 miles Total Time:...

Things I Will Not Do After Finals Period Is...
I will not: Drink 6+ cans of diet soda a day and try to convince myself that they are bubbly sport drinks. (They have sodium!  That’s an electrolyte right?) Think that a trip to Burger King with the boyfriend is a date. (Um yeah, that was last night.  Though while totally unhealthy, those Funnel Cake Sticks are delicious…) Listen to the same playlist more than once in the same day. ...

I kinda hate that they're much more expensive than Nike+. I was pretty happy with it until a week or two ago. I can't have it stopping early on me though...

My Lunchtime 10K run!
I’ve been studying a ton for finals (10-12 hours a day), so I haven’t been diligent about my running OR my tumblr posting.  I did go for a run today, and it was pretty decent (despite the 20 mph winds). Final statistics: Distance: 6.22 miles Duration: 01:04:57 Avg. pace: 10:26 min/mi Mile 1: 10:30 Mile 2: 9:55 Mile 3: 11:00 Mile 4: 10:40 Mile 5: 10:35 Mile 6: 10:21 .22:...

Second Run Back!
Used my new Garmin Forerunner 305 (review is coming soon, I promise!) to take a run after dinner.  I was somewhat if-y about whether I was going to run at all, because I got totally beat up in my sports rehab today!  However, they want me to keep running, so I figured I’d be OK as long as any pain I had did not get worse. Final statistics: Distance: 4.05 miles Duration: 00:41:50 Avg....

Flat Feet and Shoes
dazeinthelife replied to your post: YAY, I CAN RUN!!!!! So because you have flat feet, will you have to get new/different/special running shoes? I’ve been thinking this could be one of my problems (either flat feet or too high of an arch). YAY, I CAN RUN!!!!!
Just got back from the sports doctor.  Apparently, there are a LOT of things wrong with me, but nothing that cannot be fixed by the time of my half-marathon! Here is my diagnosis: overuse injuries to the posterior tibial muscle, patellar tendon, and IT bands (mainly in the left leg) The posterior tibial muscle is one of the “shin splint” muscles.  If you have shin splints, it will...

Well, I've made my appointment with the sports...
I go in tomorrow.  I think my legs are getting a little better, but not as good as they should be after a week of rest.  Let’s hope that he figures out what is wrong and tells me that I will be good to go for my half-marathon in 19 days!
